Team Tasks - COM 427 Social Media for Communicators #NewhouseSM4 Fall 2013 - Wearable Technology - Developing A Google Glass App
Week 1. Week of 8/25 In-class demo of Google Glass
Week 2. Week of 9/1 Sept. 3 and 4 - Dan Schultz introduction and inspiration for making things
Week 3. Week of 9/8 Student try Google Glass. (We are doing a demo of Google Glass in-class on Monday, 9/9.
Wednesday 9/11 Sean Branagan speaks to the students about Ideation, Innovation and forming winning teams. Class break into small teams of 2-4. People can pitch their interests and ideas and then self select into teams based on interest.
Week 4. Week of 9/15 - Guest Speaker on Wearable Technology and Developing Apps for Google Glass.
A. Students will divide into teams of 3-4. Each team will create a name for the team (be professional)
and create a team member contact list and project document using
Google Drive.
1. Documents - Use Google Drive for team communciation to collaborate, share documents, create the PowerPoint, and for live group chatting.
Create a team list and add each team member as editor and add your professor and instructor assistant as a viewer.
2. Google Plus - Connect with your teammates, professor, and instructor assistant to create a team circle.
3. Create a team Twitter list and add your teammates so you can follow each other easier on a Twitter list.
4. Create a Hashtag for your project or team to organize your online communication and sharing. The Hashtag will be used on all social media platforms.
5. Connect with your teammates on LinkedIn.
6. Create a group on LinkedIn - To discuss the project and share resources.
7. Teams are required to have one team meeting using Google+ Hangout.
B. Google Alert - Set up a Google Alert using a search term relevant to your topic or idea. Each team member should try a different search term.
Google Alert is a free, automatic monitoring or listening service to help you monitor the web for new content of your choice.
Type: Select Everything.
How Often: Select as-it-happens
Email length: Select up to 20 Results
Delivery to: select your free Gmail address.
Week 5. Week of 9/22 - Team Time
Week 6. Week of 9/29 - Team Time
Week 7. Week of 10/6 - Students present to Panel of experts.
A. Presentations will be Monday, October 7 and Wednesday, October 9.
B. Your team will be creating a "Pitch Deck" to present your idea to a panel of experts. We will be using Guy Kawasaki's How to Create an Enchanting Pitch and Pitch Deck Template as our model. Each team will have a 10 minute or less presentation.
Week 7. Week of 10/6 - Students present to Panel of experts.
Week 8. Week of 10/13 - From feedback refine and finalize ideas. Create presentation of idea. Share on social networks to crowdsource votes and receive feedback. Where? How?
After receiving feedback from the panel of experts, teams will revise
their presenations before going public and sharing on social media.
Teams will be sharing the projects on social media to get feedback and
"votes" to determine the best idea. The winning idea will be developed
into a Google Glass working prototype or App.
1. After presenting Google Glass ideas to panel of expert judges revise
/ improve your Glass App ideas and pitch presentation slide decks in response to
judge feedback and prepare for launch on social networks.
2. After revising your Glass App and pitch presentation. Upload your presentation to SlideShare.
Share link on G+, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Use the #NewhouseSM4 and your team project Hashtag.

Add a new Post on your blog. Each team member needs to do an individual
Blog post about the Glass App.
- Describe how the team collaborated and what tools were used.
(Hootsuite, Twitter, Google Drive, G+, Hangouts, Facebook,
LinkedIn, Pinterest, Slideshare, Wordpress, Tumblr, Klout, etc.
- Embed the SlideShare or Prezi on your blog.
- Add an image in your post to your blog from your presentation.
- Embed a video or Vine about your App.
- Share link on G+, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn using the #NewhouseSM4 and your team project Hashtag.
- Add a minimum of (3) three hyper-links.
- Use Categories and Keywords - Use these categories and keywords with
your new post. You can add other new categories if you like.
Note:
- Spelling, grammar, and punctuation count. Spell check and proofread.
- Your Blog post headline should be something to
get people interested in reading your post, not the class name or name
of the assignment. Think about the headlines that get your interest.
After your blog post is complete: Share on G+/Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn/Pinterest - Post with a link promoting your blog post. Include the #NewhouseSM4 and your project Hashtag in your posts.
Week 9. Week of 10/20 - Run Analytics. Tally the votes - and the winner is????
Week 10. Week of 10/27 - Run Analytics. Tally the votes - and the winner is???? Start building the winning ideas, to be completed before Thanksgiving
Week 11. Week of 11/3 - Build, build, build, make, make, make.
Week 12. Week of 11/10 Build and Prepare Final Presentation!
Week 14. Week of 11/17 - Idea must be completed and presented to class before Thanksgiving break!
Week 15 - Thanksgiving Break - No Class
Week 16 - Last class. Wrap up and recap!
